Morrissey Cancels First Concert of 2026 Due to 'Adverse Reaction' to 'Prescription Medication'

Morrisseyhas canceled his first scheduled concert of 2026 due to a medical issue.

The English musician, 66, was slated to perform in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on Saturday, Jan. 3. However, astatementshared on the Morrissey-Solo website on Friday, Jan. 2, said the show would be postponed due to "an adverse reaction to a prescription medication."

"Please hold onto your tickets as they will be honored for a rescheduled date. Should you wish to request a refund, please contact your original point of purchase," the statement continued.

Additionally, the San Diego Civic Theatre shared that the musician's Jan. 6 concert had been canceled, per a Friday, Jan. 2Instagram post. They did not share whether the cancellation is due to the same medication issue.

"Refunds are available via point of purchase," the venue added.

A representative for Morrissey did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment

The singer, whose full name is Steven Patrick Morrissey, quietly canceled a number of tour dates in November 2025, including five shows in South America, citing "extreme exhaustion," perNew Noise Magazine.

He additionally canceled a number of previous shows throughout 2025, citing issues like sinusitis and travel-related fatigue, per the outlet.

In June, the former Smiths frontman claimed he had"zero music industry support"after preemptively canceling a show in Stockholm, Sweden.

"The pain of not reaching Stockholm this week is horrific for the band and crew. I know it's impossible for people to understand, but we dream of Stockholm, Reykjavik, Trondheim, Helsinki, Aarhus … but there isno financial supportfrom imaginary record labels to get us to such places," he said in aposton Morrissey Central.

"In the last seven days, we have traveled into six countries, and we are travel-weary beyond belief," he continued. "We can barely see."

The singer added, "We pray to God that someone, somewhere can help us reach Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark … where we have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zeromusic industrysupport."
