A run supporting Eaton Fire victims brought in over $100,000 from sponsorships and registrations, according to an event organizer, as thefirst anniversaryof both the Eaton and Palisades fires nears.
At least two news outlets reported that the inaugural Altadena Forever Run, which occurred on Jan. 4, raised about $100,000 — a figure that Victoria Knapp, event co-chair, confirmed to the USA TODAY Network in an email, saying that the amount brought in from sponsorships and registrations is "over $100,000."
The run was a partnership between the Los Angeles Sheriff's Athletic Association, the Altadena Sheriff's Station and the Sheriff's Support Group of Altadena, and proceeds will go both to the Altadena Eaton Fire Relief Fund and the Sheriff's Support Group of Altadena, Knapp said.
The Altadena Eaton Fire Recovery Fund was launched by the Altadena Town Council, in partnership with GoFundMe, and has previously distributed grant awards to applicants, according to the Altadena Town Council last year.
Just over 3,200 people registered for the run on Jan. 4, according to Knapp, which took participants throughout the foothill community.

Knapp said that organizers had hoped the event, through sponsorships and registrations, would gross over $100,000 — "which it did" — and are feeling proud of what this run has meant to Altadena and community members.
"Aside from the monies raised, we heard many participants comment that this was the 'first fun' they've had since the fire, and that they were 'overwhelmed seeing so many people come out, and in the rain, to support Altadena,'" Knapp said.
The Altadena Forever Run co-chair said there were many Altadena community members who'd lined up along the course and cheered people on.
"This was a somewhat unexpected surprise, given how many Altadenans are still displaced, and given the rain," Knapp said. "It would be fair to say that the entire Altadena Forever Run team felt that the Run exceeded our expectations and we are looking forward to next year."
