Diane Keaton's daughter Dexter is honoring her late mom's birthday.
In a Instagram post on Monday, Jan. 5, Dexter, 29, shared a throwback photo of time spent with her mom and a tattoo she got in her memory.
"I miss you, mom," shewroteon what would have been Keaton's 80th birthday. "Thank you @winterstone for my forever reminder of my wonderful mom."
Dexter also showed off her black-and-white, polka-dotted manicure on her Instagram Stories, a nod to Keaton's iconic style. "Happy heavenly birthday, momma," she wrote.
Over the years Dexter — who largely lives out of the spotlight — often shared snapshots of her life with Keaton on her Instagram page,ranging from trips togethertoher wedding day.
In 2014,she honored Keatonon Mother's Day, writing, "I'm so thankful to have been adopted by such a strong, beautiful, and talented woman. I couldn't thank you enough for everything you've done for me. I love you!"
While she never wed,Keaton, who died on Oct. 11 in California at age 79, had twokids,Dexterand son Duke, 25, whom she adopted in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
"I didn't think that I was ever going to be prepared to be a mother," she toldLadies' Home Journal. "Motherhood was not an urge I couldn't resist. It was more like a thought I'd been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in."
Sources told PEOPLE after Keaton's death that the Oscar winner was surrounded by loved ones in her final days.
"Shedeclined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her," said a friend. "It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit."
Another longtime pal remembered the star as "one in a million."
"Being in the spotlight wasn't important to her. She loved her home, her dog Reggie, her little routines," said the second friend. "Diane always had a very strong sense of who she was and how she wanted to live."
